How to Check Your Roof for Storm Damage
In the event of a storm, you might have to check your roof for damages. This can be a difficult task if you’re not sure about it. Luckily, there are a few simple tips that will help you determine whether your roof has suffered any storm damage or not. Here’s what you need to check:
Loose Shingles
If any of your shingles or roof tiles come off in your hand when you inspect them, it’s a good idea to get them replaced soon and should be noted on the inspection list. Remember, some of these smaller pieces might come off during a storm, so don’t ignore them!
Debris
If you notice any debris from trees or other objects on top of your roof, you want to clean them up before any further damage is caused. This may require hiring a professional to cut back branches, but it needs to be done before another storm hits or any roof repairs begin.
Check For Holes
A major concern when inspecting your roof is determining if it has any holes in it. Holes can be caused by windstorms, but also from inspects or pests. It can be dangerous to check for this type of damage on your own, so it’s best to call in a professional if you think you’re in over your head.

The underside of your roof is usually the last place people check, but it’s also one of the most important. Any signs of leakage or moisture could mean that the inside of your home is already starting to suffer and needs roof repairs as soon as possible to avoid further issues.
Standing Water
If you notice any standing water on your roof, don’t ignore it. Standing water on your roof can mean any different things and should be taken seriously before the problem worsens and causes serious damage.
Under normal circumstances, it’s best to have your roof inspected once or twice a year to be on the safe side. In the event of a storm passing through, it’s important to check for roof damage as soon as possible and schedule roof repairs as soon as you notice an issue.
