Torch-On Roofing

Highly durable and resistant flat roofing solution

Torch-On Flat Roofing

Torch-on Flat Roofing is a highly durable and resistant roofing system that can last 15-20 years with little to no maintenance, making it a preferred roofing system for many commercial roofing and flat roofing applications.

What is Torch-On Roofing?

Torch-On Roofing is a roofing system that utilizes 2 to 3 layers of of modified asphalt sheets that are melted together using a torch. The end result is a roof that is extremely durable and resistant to weather conditions that makes it an excellent choice for the rainy weather of Vancouver and the Lower Mainland areas.

The base layer is generally secured to the structure using screws or special adhesives with the top layer having a granular texture similar to traditional asphalt shingles to provide the roof with the protection it needs.

Benefits of Torch-On Roofing

Torch-On Roofing provides a superior weather-resistant barrier for your building and boasts a lifespan of 15-20 years with little to no maintenance required over its lifespan. Torch-On roofing provides many of the same benefits as traditional tar and gravel roofing systems without the added weight and load to the structure itself and eliminates the drainage problems commonly experienced with tar and gravel roofs.

Torch-On Roof Maintenance

Torch-On roofing systems require almost no maintenance, but like any roofing system, it is important to do some regular maintenance to ensure your roof's lifespan is as long as possible. It's important to inspect your roof on a regular basis using a qualified roofing professional to conduct a complete roofing inspection. If any leaks are detected in the roofing system, they should be repaired as soon as possible.

While it's not completely neccesary, it is a worthwhile investment to have your torch-on roof sealed every 5 years to ensure it's continued durability, eliminate the risk of leaks, and extend the overall lifespan of your rooing system.

Torch-On Roof Installation

Torch-On roofs are one of the easiest roofing systems to install and can often be installed right over top of your existing roof, provided it's still in good condition. Torch-On roofs should always be installed by a professional to ensure that the structure of your building itself isn't damaged during the installation process due to the use of a torch.

The first step to installing a torch-on roof is to lay fibreglass felt insulation across the entire roof. This first layer will become attached to the top layers during the torch application, so it is crucial to ensure the base layer is laid perfectly flat to avoid any bubbles and potential leaks in the roof.

The bitumen layer is then applied over top of the base layer. It is rolled out as it is applied to ensure an even and perfectly flat application across the entire roof and prevent any gaps or leaks. The area around any chimneys and mechanical items is applied using a similar material before being covered with the top layer to ensure a proper seal.

After your new Torch-On roof has settled for a few months, an additional layer can be applied for added protection, making it more fire resistant, waterproof and resistant to any tears or punctures.
