Knowing when to Repair or Replace your Roof
When you have a busy and hectic schedule, you might forget to double-check whether your roof is in good condition. The bad news is that the most damaged part of nay roof is usually the roof. The roof takes on a lot of damage from pouring rain, heavy snow, and extreme heat, which is why you need to take care of it. Homeowners usually do not have the relevant experience required to know if their roofs are in need of repair, but there are certain signs to let you know whether to replace or repair your roof.
Roof Leaks
The initial and most evident sign that you need to repair your roof is if it is leaking. If you see a puddle forming on your floor, a wet spot on the ceiling, or water drippage, then your roof could be responsible and it can result in water damage in your home. A leaky roof can happen for reasons such as rain damage and ice buildup. Some of the factors responsible for a leaky roof include old age, mislaid shingles, and extreme weather conditions. Even though a leakage can be evident at times, other factors may not be as obvious to identify.
Wear and Tear
Your roof will not last forever and this also goes for your roof shingles. You can determine old shingles in several ways and the sooner you address them, the less you will have to worry about. Check your roof shingles to see if any are missing, curled, or cracked. If any of these is this the case, you might want to replace your roof. Old shingles are also prone to losing their granules, which give them their texture and protect them from sunlight. You can see this as dark spots on your roof that look like dirt. Roof shingles have undergone years of harsh weather conditions and as their useful life comes to an end, homeowners should consider repairing them or replacing them before further damage occurs.
Peeling or Blistering of Interior or Exterior Paint
The damage associated with humidity and heat should not be underestimated. The increase of temperatures can cause peeling of exterior or interior paint as well as exterior decay. Mildew, mold, and interior stains should also be an indication of concern. Usually this is because of improper underlayment of shingles, which can result in a poorly ventilated attic. Look for any of these indications because humidity can be damaging to more than your physical assets.
Replacing or repairing your roof can be more necessary than you think so ensure you take the time to inspect your roof regularly.
